Goat Island

Goat Island is a small uninhabited island located above the Falls between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, USA. Originally farm land, the acreage is named for its first inhabitants – a herd of goats. All but one was lost during the winter of 1780, and the Island became local folklore. As property of the State of New York, the island was developed as a piece of Niagara Falls State Park and currently includes a bridge with access to Niagara Falls, USA and is at the heart of the state parks recreational hiking and bike trails.
